Held my breath the whole time I was reading. Right there pounding those pavements and clawing through those barrels until the ride, sorry, read😁 came to end. All too quickly.
Long wait till Sunday again...
I'm learning, reliving, reflecting. Thank you Blessing🙏
An entire word that resonates with me. The continual cycle of hustling, shape shifting and code switching slowly eats away at you. You become victim to hazing rituals aimed at dimming your light because it shines too bright for some.
Thank you for sharing your raw experiences. So many share the success stories without sharing the challenging roads to get there. In our culture of celebrating successful people we often forget those that didn’t ‘have’ what it takes to make it and their stories are just as valid. I can relate to so much of your story and journey, except unlike you I didn’t have the courage to breakaway from the cultural and societal pressures and expectations. I am still in the thick of it, on the inside looking out. I am encouraged by your journey and rooting for you. Can’t wait to read more.
The talk about privilege just emphasizes to me how unequal opportunities are. The foreign vs local degree privilege, the citizenship or work permit privilege the social circle or connected parents privilege. The mentorship privilege. The age privilege; makes me wonder how much I can really hustle my way out of the barrel…. I’m Lowkey discouraged but we can only keep trying

Thanks for sharing, ma. 'Not all deaths are deserving of good grief' resonates deeply.
